Everybody who has ever written for Jon Stewart will tell you that he hates his writers, and he’s abusive, and is anti-union. But nobody has the courage to take on Satan in Christ’s clothes. I’m joking about his being Satan but he is anti-union. And the head of the Writer’s Guild out here told me that during the strike, when Jon was working as a writer, doing shows, and being his own scab, the head of the Writer’s Guild told me in his whole history he had never been talked to as abusively as he was by Jon Stewart. But nobody’s going to go after Jon Stewart. Nobody’s going to tell the truth about what a bad guy Jon Stewart because for some reason he’s got angel’s wings. You know—he is funny, the show’s great, but he is not a supporter of unions.

David Feldman says that John Stewart tried to prevent his writers from Unionizing, then punished them after they did. I’m very interested to hear from other Daily Show writers; if this is true then it’s a massive disappointment.  (via jonathan-cunningham)

I’m honestly not surprised.  I kind of hate Jon Stewart ever since the incredibly bullshit “Rally to Restore Sanity”.

Yeah, and all the transmisogynist “jokes” he’s told over the years… It always struck me as bizarre that folks were willing to give him a pass for that even as they (rightly) raked Dan Savage over the coals for it.

So, yeah — he comes across as a jerk in his public dealings, and I’m not at all surprised to learn that he actually is a jerk and isn’t just playing a character.

Still, it always makes me angry to hear of writers being treated this way.

if this is true it’s hella disappointing. at one point in my life he was one of my biggest role modles. :\

I’m hesitant to pass judgment on the man based on one anecdote. But even if true, I think it’s idealistic, and unrealistic, to expect our heroes to be perfect in every area off their lives. But, today, heroes are expected to be flawless extensions of their work„ as will as representatives of our personally held ideals. Am I upset that Jon Stewart may be anti-union? You bet, but I still respect and admire the man beyond measure because he does what few others are able to do: speak truth to power
